When Is Tết?
Tết 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6.
Tết Nguyên Đán is Vietnam’s lunar new year and the point in the year when the country genuinely stops: factories, ministries, banks and most family businesses all close together for the better part of a week. It falls on the same lunar day as Chinese New Year in every year published here, but the holiday around it is built very differently — Vietnam is the only calendar on this site that treats the eve, the new year and several following days as one continuous statutory block without asking for make-up workdays in return.

How Vietnam’s Tết break is built
The Labour Code grants five days for Tết. In practice the government issues an annual circular that attaches the surrounding weekend and, in some years, an extra swapped day, producing a break of seven to nine days. The block always opens on the eve — the day of the giao thừa transition — which is why Vietnamese workers can travel home a full day earlier than their counterparts in Hong Kong or Singapore.
Tết and Chinese New Year: same moon, different holiday
Vietnam files the new moon under a UTC+7 date while China uses UTC+8. About once a decade that pushes Tết one day away from Chinese New Year — it happened in 1985 and in 2007. For every year currently on this site the two coincide. South Korea is the exception in the table below: it reckons the lunar month in UTC+9, which puts Seollal 2027 a day after Tết. Each row is dated from its own national calendar, so wherever the calendars split the table shows it.
What actually closes
Manufacturing is the practical constraint for anyone sourcing from Vietnam: lines typically go quiet several days before the statutory break and restart slowly afterwards as migrant workers return, so a two- to three-week planning buffer is realistic even though the official holiday is shorter. Banks and government offices follow the published dates exactly.

Usually yes. Most plants wind down before the statutory dates and ramp back up gradually, so buyers commonly plan for two to three weeks of reduced output around Tết.
Is Tết Eve a public holiday in Vietnam?+
Yes. Vietnam is one of the few calendars here that names the eve explicitly as a day off, and the whole break is anchored to it.
