2025: the turning-point year
A mid-2025 reform of Taiwan’s holiday law reshaped the calendar. Three holidays were restored for the second half of the year — Teachers’ Day / Confucius’ Birthday (Sep 28), Retrocession Day (Oct 25) and Constitution Day (Dec 25) — and the practice of scheduling make-up Saturdays was abolished going forward.
Because the Lunar New Year fell early in 2025, it kept the old rule one last time: a make-up workday on Saturday Feb 8 repaid the Jan 27 day off. From 2026 onward there are no make-up workdays at all.
