What the 2 October 2026 decision approved
On 2 October 2026 the Government Office issued Official Dispatch 10065/VPCP-KGVX, relaying Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Thị Thanh Trà’s approval of two Ministry of Home Affairs submissions. For Tết Đinh Mùi 2027, state employees get seven straight days — Thursday 4 February (28th of the 12th lunar month) to Wednesday 10 February (5th of the first month) — and return to work on Thursday 11 February. National Day 2027 is a four-day break, Thursday 2 September to Sunday 5 September. The same dispatch grants one day off for Vietnamese Cultural Day on 24 November 2026.
The seven Tết days are not a swap. They are the five statutory Tết days — two before the new year (4–5 February) and three after it (6–8 February) — plus two compensatory days (9–10 February) owed because Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February fall inside the holiday. Nothing is borrowed from a later weekend, so the plan has no make-up Saturday. Likewise the four National Day days are two statutory days (2–3 September) plus the 4–5 September weekend.
The dispatch fixes the schedule for state agencies and tells the Ministry of Home Affairs to notify businesses and workers. Article 112 of the Labour Code guarantees every employee five paid Tết days and two National Day days (2 September plus one adjacent day) and leaves the exact dates to the Prime Minister each year. For private employers, the Ministry’s notice has in past years offered a choice of patterns (for 2026: one, two or three days before the new year, the rest after it) and of 1 or 3 September, and employers must tell staff in advance. The 2027 notice for private employers had not been published when this page was updated, so check your own employer’s announcement before booking travel.
