Indonesia Public Holidays 2028 (Provisional)

These are the projected 2028 national holidays for Indonesia: 16 holiday events totaling 17 days off. The dates below follow the statutory holiday list and astronomical calendars — the cuti bersama (collective leave) days are set only when the SKB joint ministerial decree is signed, usually in Q3 of the preceding year, so expect the official 2028 list around September–October 2027. The year is shaped by an unusual pattern: five holidays land on a Thursday, and Ascension Day and Islamic New Year coincide on May 25. Lebaran (Feb 27–28, Sun–Mon) already forms a three-day weekend on its own.

Why the 2028 dates are provisional — and where the cuti bersama went

Indonesia's holiday calendar is finalized each year by the SKB joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform, coordinated by Kemenko PMK — typically signed in Q3 of the preceding year (the 2026 decree came on 19 September 2025). Until the 2028 SKB lands, expected around September–October 2027, the fixed-date holidays here are firm, the Islamic dates (Idul Fitri, Idul Adha, 1 Muharram, Maulid, Isra Mi'raj) are astronomical estimates that moon-sighting can shift by a day, and every cuti bersama day is unknown.

That is why this page deliberately lists no cuti bersama days: they are a government decision, not a calendar rule, and guessing them would put wrong dates into the calendar files you download. The moment the SKB is published we add the collective leave days here and regenerate the ICS, CSV and PDF exports — usually within 24–48 hours.

Five Thursdays: the shape of the 2028 calendar

The 2028 layout is unusually kind to leave planners. Five holidays fall on a Thursday — Ascension Day and Islamic New Year (both May 25), Pancasila Day (Jun 1), Maulid (Aug 3), Independence Day (Aug 17) and Isra Mi'raj (Dec 14). The SKB routinely bridges Thursday holidays with a Friday cuti bersama, so 2028 could produce up to five four-day weekends on top of the five three-day weekends the calendar already delivers (Lebaran, Easter, Labour Day, Idul Adha and Christmas).

Two quirks stand out. First, Ascension Day and the Islamic New Year coincide on Thursday May 25 — two holiday events on a single date, so the day off counts once. Second, Lebaran comes unusually early: Idul Fitri is projected for Sunday–Monday February 27–28, the earliest Lebaran since 2000, and moon-sighting could still pull it forward or push it back by a day. Bali's Nyepi, meanwhile, falls on Sunday March 26 — the airport still closes for 24 hours, but there is no weekday off attached.

Frequently asked questions

Are the 2028 Indonesia holidays confirmed yet?+

Not yet. The SKB joint ministerial decree that fixes the national holidays and cuti bersama days is usually signed in Q3 of the preceding year — the 2026 edition came on 19 September 2025 — so expect the official 2028 list around September–October 2027. This page shows projections until then, and the Islamic dates can still shift by a day on moon-sighting.

When is Lebaran (Idul Fitri) 2028 in Indonesia?+

Idul Fitri 1449H is projected for Sunday–Monday, February 27–28, 2028 — unusually early, the earliest Lebaran since 2000. The exact date is confirmed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs isbat (moon-sighting) session, and the cuti bersama days that typically stretch it into a longer break come with the SKB decree.

Why does this page show no cuti bersama days for 2028?+

Because cuti bersama days are a government decision, not a calendar rule — they exist only once the SKB decree names them, and that decree is not expected before September–October 2027. Rather than guess dates that would flow into downloaded calendar files, we list only the statutory holidays and add the collective leave days within 24–48 hours of the decree landing.

Do Ascension Day and Islamic New Year really fall on the same day in 2028?+

Yes — current projections put both on Thursday, May 25, 2028. The Islamic date (1 Muharram 1450H) is an astronomical estimate and could shift by a day, but as it stands the two events share one date, so the day off is counted once, not twice. It is one of five Thursday holidays in 2028, each a candidate for a Friday cuti bersama bridge.

When is Nyepi 2028 and what happens in Bali?+

Nyepi, the Balinese Saka new year (Saka 1950), falls on Sunday, March 26, 2028. For 24 hours the island goes completely silent: no flights in or out of Ngurah Rai airport, no traffic, no lights, and tourists must remain inside their hotel grounds. Because it lands on a Sunday there is no weekday off attached.

Where can I download the Indonesia 2028 holiday calendar?+

Our Indonesia 2028 page and the holiday calendar downloads hub offer ICS and CSV files based on the current projections — we refresh them within 24–48 hours once the official SKB decree is published.
