Legal basis: State Council holiday arrangements
Mainland China's public holiday calendar is set each year by a General Office of the State Council notice (国务院办公厅通知), which publishes the exact rest-day and make-up workday schedule for the seven statutory holidays defined in the Measures for National Annual Festivals and Memorial Days (2007 revision). The 2026 arrangement was issued in November 2025 and is the authoritative source for which weekends become working days.
China make-up workdays in 2026
China extends short holidays into longer breaks by 'borrowing' adjacent weekend days. Those weekends then become regular working days, called make-up workdays (调休 / 补班). In 2026 there are 6 of them: Jan 4, Feb 14, Feb 28, May 9, Sep 20 and Oct 10.

Triple-pay days in 2026: the statutory dates
Under Article 44 of China’s Labour Law, work performed on a statutory holiday (法定休假日) must be paid at no less than 300% of the normal wage, and compensatory leave cannot replace it. The borrowed weekends and the remaining days of each extended break are rest days, not statutory holidays: work then follows the rest-day rule (200% if no compensatory leave is given) rather than triple pay.
