Singapore is projected to have 11 gazetted public holidays in 2028, following the standing rules of the Holidays Act — the Ministry of Manpower has not yet published the official list, which typically lands around June of the preceding year. As the calendar stands, Chinese New Year falls on Wednesday–Thursday Jan 26–27, Hari Raya Puasa is expected on Sunday Feb 27 (rolling to an in-lieu Monday, Feb 28), and five no-leave long weekends are in view. All dates here are estimates and will be updated once the official notice is published.

Projected dates — the official list is due around June 2027
The Ministry of Manpower publishes Singapore’s gazetted public holidays about a year ahead — the 2027 list, for example, was released on 18 June 2026. The 2028 gazette is therefore expected around June 2027 and has not been published yet. The dates on this page are projections: fixed-date holidays (New Year’s Day, Labour Day, National Day, Christmas) and the weekday rules (a Sunday holiday rolls to Monday) are settled by law, while the lunar and Islamic dates are calculated estimates.
Four dates carry real uncertainty. Hari Raya Puasa (expected Sun Feb 27) and Hari Raya Haji (expected Fri May 5) depend on the MUIS moon sighting and can shift by a day; Vesak Day (expected Tue May 9) is confirmed annually by the Singapore Buddhist Federation; Deepavali (expected Tue Oct 17) follows the Hindu calendar. When the MOM gazette lands we will update this page and flip its status to confirmed.
Five projected long weekends — and a midweek Chinese New Year
As projected, 2028 gives five long weekends that need no annual leave: the Hari Raya Puasa weekend (Feb 26–28, with the Monday in lieu), Good Friday (Apr 14–16), Labour Day (Apr 29–May 1), Hari Raya Haji (May 5–7) and Christmas (Dec 23–25). Note that three of the five hinge on the two tentative Islamic dates — if the moon sighting shifts either festival by a day, those windows move with it.
Chinese New Year lands midweek in 2028 — Wednesday Jan 26 and Thursday Jan 27 — so it creates no long weekend by itself. But it also creates an opportunity: one day of leave on Friday Jan 28 bridges the holiday to the weekend for five straight days off (Jan 26–30). Vesak Day (Tue May 9), National Day (Wed Aug 9) and Deepavali (Tue Oct 17) are likewise midweek, each one leave day away from a long break.

Why does New Year's Day 2028 have no in-lieu day in Singapore?+
New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, Jan 1. Singapore grants an in-lieu holiday only when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, so Saturday holidays are not extended. The same rule means Hari Raya Puasa — expected on Sunday Feb 27 — does get an in-lieu Monday on Feb 28.
How is the Vesak Day 2028 date decided?+
Vesak Day follows the Buddhist lunar calendar — the full-moon day of the fourth lunar month — and the Singapore date is confirmed each year by the Singapore Buddhist Federation before being gazetted by MOM. Current estimates put it on Tuesday, May 9, 2028.
What happens if I have to work on a public holiday in Singapore?+
Under the Employment Act you are entitled to an extra day’s salary at the basic rate on top of your gross pay for that day, or time off in lieu by mutual agreement for eligible employees. Employers and employees may also agree to swap a public holiday for another working day.
