Malaysia’s 2025 federal (nationwide) public holidays covered the major Muslim, Chinese, Hindu and Christian festivals plus the King’s Birthday, Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day. The headline long break was the 4-day Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Mar 29–Apr 1). Each state also gazetted extra local holidays.

Federal vs state holidays in Malaysia
The holidays on this page are the federal (nationwide) ones observed across Malaysia. On top of these, each of the 13 states and 3 federal territories gazettes its own holidays — sultans’ birthdays, Thaipusam, Good Friday (Sabah & Sarawak), Gawai Dayak (Sarawak), Federal Territory Day and others — so the total number of days off varies by location. Peninsular employees under the Employment Act are guaranteed at least 11 paid public holidays a year.
In 2025 only one federal holiday fell on a rest day: National Day (Sunday Aug 31), giving a replacement on Monday September 1. The standout break was Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which combined with the weekend for a 4-day stretch from March 29 to April 1.
