Tet 2027 (Vietnamese Lunar New Year)

Tet Nguyen Dan (Tết Nguyên Đán) — the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and the country’s most important holiday — falls on Saturday February 6, 2027, opening the Year of the Goat (Đinh Mùi). The statutory five holiday days run Friday February 5 (Tet Eve) through Tuesday February 9. Vietnam’s government usually stretches the break further by swapping working days, with the extended 2027 schedule expected in late 2026.

What happens during Tet

Tet is Vietnam’s family reunion season: people return to hometowns, clean and decorate homes with kumquat trees and peach or apricot blossoms, and give lucky money (lì xì). Expect packed airports, trains and buses in the days before Feb 5, and many restaurants, shops and offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City closed through at least the first three days of the new year.

Tet 2027 falls on the same day as Chinese New Year (Feb 6) — the two calendars usually align. See our Vietnam 2027 page for the full provisional calendar; this page will be updated when the official extended schedule is published.

Frequently asked questions

When is Tet 2027?+

Lunar New Year’s Day (Mùng 1) is Saturday February 6, 2027. The statutory holiday runs February 5–9 (Friday to Tuesday).

How many days off do Vietnamese workers get for Tet 2027?+

The Labour Code guarantees five paid days. The government usually announces a longer continuous block (often seven to nine days) by swapping adjacent working days; the 2027 decision is expected in late 2026.

Is Tet the same day as Chinese New Year in 2027?+

Yes — both fall on February 6, 2027. The Vietnamese and Chinese lunisolar calendars occasionally differ by a day, but not in 2027.

What zodiac year begins at Tet 2027 in Vietnam?+

The Year of the Goat (Đinh Mùi, 丁未). Vietnam’s zodiac matches China’s for 2027 — though Vietnam famously swaps some animals in other years (cat for rabbit, buffalo for ox).

Should I travel to Vietnam during Tet 2027?+

Cities are festive but quiet — flower streets and fireworks, yet many restaurants, museums and shops close for the first days of the new year, and domestic transport sells out around Feb 5–9. Book everything early and plan for reduced services.
