Why every 2027 Islamic date is provisional
Islamic holidays are fixed by crescent-moon sighting, which cannot be predicted reliably years ahead. The dates in this calendar are computed from the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar (the reference table used across the Gulf) for Hijri years 1448 and 1449. Umm al-Qura is an astronomical projection, so it is usually right to within one day — but the official UAE announcement, made by the Moon-Sighting Committee after the actual sighting, is the only authority that counts.
The table below shows the Umm al-Qura anchors used for 2027: Ramadan 1448 begins Feb 8, 2027 (29 days); 1 Shawwal 1448 = Mar 9; 1 Dhu al-Hijjah 1448 = May 7; 1 Muharram 1449 = Jun 6; and, with a 29-day Safar, 1 Rabi al-Awwal 1449 = Aug 3 (so Rabi al-Awwal 12 = Aug 14). All five Hijri holidays in this file derive from these anchors.
Potential Cabinet adjustments in 2027
Under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, the Cabinet may move most holidays (all except the three Eid al-Fitr days) to the start or end of the week, and holidays landing on a weekend are not compensated automatically. In 2027 three Hijri holidays sit on or next to the weekend: the Islamic New Year (Sun Jun 6) may move to Mon Jun 7; the Prophet's Birthday (Sat Aug 14) may move to Mon Aug 16; and the Eid al-Adha block (May 15–18) already covers its weekend naturally. Some forecasters pre-empt these moves.
