Autumn holiday bonus: two consecutive Monday holidays in October and November
A defining feature of the 2027 holiday calendar in Italy is the generous distribution of autumn breaks. The recently reinstated national holiday of St. Francis of Assisi on Monday October 4 combines with All Saints’ Day on Monday November 1 to offer two distinct three-day long weekends within less than a month, ideal for cultural tourism across Italian regions.
Compensation rules for weekend holidays in Italy
Under Article 5 of Law 260/1949 and prevailing national collective agreements (CCNL), when an official public holiday coincides with a Sunday (such as Ferragosto and St. Stephen’s Day in 2027), employees do not receive an alternative day off during the week. Instead, employers must compensate salaried staff by adding 1/26th of their normal monthly salary as "festività non goduta" (unspent holiday pay).
