When Is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha 2027 falls on Monday, May 17.
Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, at the close of the Hajj. Five calendars on this site gazette it, and unlike Eid al-Fitr it is almost always a single day β the contrast between the two Eids is one of the clearest examples of how differently one religious calendar can be translated into labour law.

Why Eid al-Adha is shorter than Eid al-Fitr
Both are canonical Islamic festivals, but only Eid al-Fitr closes a month of fasting and carries the mass homecoming that goes with it. Governments size the holiday to the travel it generates: Indonesia surrounds Eid al-Fitr with a week of collective leave and gives Eid al-Adha a single day, and Malaysia does much the same at federal level while a handful of northern states add a second day.
The date is tied to the Hajj
Eid al-Adha falls the day after the Day of Arafah, so its date is effectively announced by the Saudi Hajj authorities and then reflected in national calendars. That is why the five countries here nearly always agree on the date, while for Eid al-Fitr β which depends on local crescent sightings β they occasionally do not.
