Indonesia Cuti Bersama 2026

Cuti bersama (“collective leave”) is Indonesia’s unique mechanism for building long holiday breaks. Each year a joint ministerial decree (SKB) designates extra days off — strategically placed next to national holidays — that are mandatory for civil servants but optional for private companies. In 2026, there are 8 cuti bersama days, creating several multi-day breaks including the massive 7-day Nyepi–Lebaran super break in March.

How cuti bersama works

Each year, three ministers (Religious Affairs, Manpower, and Administrative & Bureaucratic Reform) issue a joint decree (SKB) listing both national holidays and cuti bersama dates. While national holidays apply to everyone, cuti bersama is mandatory only for government employees — and crucially, it does not reduce their annual leave. For private-sector workers, companies choose whether to observe these days; if they do, the days typically count against the employee’s annual leave allowance.

Frequently asked questions

What is cuti bersama in Indonesia?+

Cuti bersama (literally “leave together”) are collective leave days declared annually by three Indonesian ministers. They are placed next to national holidays to create longer breaks. Civil servants must observe them without losing annual leave; private companies may choose to follow them, but if they do, the days usually reduce the employee’s annual leave balance.

Is cuti bersama mandatory for private companies?+

No. Cuti bersama is mandatory only for civil servants and government employees. Private companies can decide whether to observe these days. However, banks, government offices and many large corporations do close, so business activity slows down during these periods regardless.

How is cuti bersama different from a national holiday?+

National holidays (hari libur nasional) apply to all workers across all sectors. Cuti bersama days are additional government-designated days off that only bind civil servants; private employers choose whether to follow them. National holidays do not reduce annual leave, while cuti bersama in the private sector typically does.

How many cuti bersama days are there in 2026?+

Eight days: Feb 16, Mar 18, Mar 20, Mar 23, Mar 24, May 15, Dec 24 and Dec 31.

Does cuti bersama reduce annual leave?+

For civil servants, no. For private-sector employees, it depends on the employer’s policy, but in most cases yes — cuti bersama days are deducted from annual leave.

What is the SKB decree?+

SKB stands for Surat Keputusan Bersama (Joint Decree). It is the annual document jointly issued by the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower, and Administrative Reform that officially lists all national holidays and cuti bersama dates for the year.
