Thailand Public Holidays 2028

The fixed-date holidays — New Year, Chakri Day (Apr 6), Songkran (Apr 13–15), Labour Day, Coronation Day (May 4), the royal birthdays, Chulalongkorn Day (Oct 23), the Dec 5 national day and Constitution Day (Dec 10) — are certain, as are the standing in-lieu rule that moves weekend holidays to the next working day. The Buddhist holy days (Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asarnha Bucha, Khao Phansa) follow the traditional Thai lunar calendar and are shown here from that calendar until the Cabinet publishes the official 2028 list, expected around October–November 2027.

The Cabinet may also add special bridge holidays to create long weekends, as it has done in past years. We deliberately list no ad-hoc special days for 2028 — only the standing holidays — and we will update this page when the official 2028 schedule and any special days are announced.

Songkran 2028 lands on a Thursday: April 13 (Thu), 14 (Fri) and 15 (Sat) are the holiday, and because the third day falls on a Saturday the in-lieu rule adds Monday April 17. The result is a five-day break from April 13 to 17 with no leave at all.

The bigger play starts a week earlier. Chakri Memorial Day (Apr 6) also falls on a Thursday, so taking just four days of paid leave — Friday Apr 7 and Monday Apr 10 to Wednesday Apr 12 — joins the two blocks into a single twelve-day stretch from April 6 to 17. Expect domestic flights, trains and island hotels for that window to sell out months ahead; it is the Thai travel peak of the year.

The Thai lunar year B.E. 2571 (2028) is a leap year with an intercalary month — the eighth lunar month occurs twice. By rule, Asarnha Bucha is then observed on the full moon of the second eighth month, which pushes it to Thursday July 6, 2028, with Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent) the next day, Friday July 7. Together they make a four-day break from July 6 to 9.

Note that astronomical full-moon tables can show these holy days a day or so later than the dates here. The officially observed dates follow the traditional computed Thai lunar calendar (the basis of the Department of Religion’s announcements), not the raw astronomical full moon — which is why, for example, Visakha Bucha is Monday May 8 here even though the astronomical full moon falls on May 9.
