LFT Article 74: seven federal statutory rest days
Mexico lists federal rest days (días de descanso obligatorio) directly in Article 74 of the Ley Federal del Trabajo (LFT). Fixed dates are 1 January, 1 May, 16 September and 25 December; Constitution Day moves to the first Monday of February, Benito Juárez to the third Monday of March, and Revolution Day to the third Monday of November. Election days are also statutory under paragraph IX when federal elections are held.
No annual decree is required — dates are mechanically derived from the statute. This page lists only those LFT days; they are what appear in ICS, CSV and PDF exports.
Not LFT holidays: Día de Muertos, Guadalupe Day and Holy Week
Many calendars mix in Día de Muertos (1–2 November), Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe (12 December) and Maundy Thursday / Good Friday (Semana Santa). Banks (Banxico/CNBV) and SEP school calendars often close or suspend classes, but these are not días de descanso obligatorio under LFT Article 74. They are deliberately excluded from this page's holiday table and from all calendar exports — legislative proposals to add Muertos or Guadalupe to Article 74 had not passed as of 2026.
No substitute rule and state-level holidays
When an LFT holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Mexico does not move it to a weekday — the day off is simply lost for Monday–Friday workers. Private employers may still grant bridge days (puentes), but that is contractual, not statutory. Each state and municipality may add its own local holidays (e.g. state foundation days); this page covers federal LFT days only.
