The Czech Republic (Czechia) keeps 13 statutory days off, fixed permanently by Act No. 245/2000 Sb. — the state never publishes a yearly list. In 2025 three of them are swallowed by a weekend: Saints Cyril and Methodius Day (Saturday July 5), Jan Hus Day (Sunday July 6) and Czech Statehood Day (Sunday September 28). Because Czech law has no substitute-day rule, those three add nothing. The best automatic break of 2025 is Christmas: Štědrý den on Wednesday December 24 runs through Friday December 26 and into the weekend, giving five consecutive days off.

One statute, thirteen days: how the Czech list actually works
Nobody in Prague publishes a holiday calendar for 2025. The list is permanent: Act No. 245/2000 Sb. sets out seven state holidays in §1 (Nový rok on 1 January, Victory Day, the two July feasts, Statehood Day, and the two autumn anniversaries, 28 October and 17 November) and seven "other holidays" in §2 (Nový rok again, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day and the three Christmas days), and §3 declares them all days of rest. Because 1 January appears in both sections, fourteen statutory items collapse into thirteen actual days off. Only two dates are movable — Good Friday and Easter Monday — and both hang off the Gregorian Easter, which falls on April 20 in 2025.
The Act also settles what is not a holiday. §4 lists the "significant days" (významné dny) — 16 January for Jan Palach, 27 January for the victims of the Holocaust, 8 March, 12 March for NATO accession, 11 November for war veterans and the rest — and states flatly that they are working days. So a Czech office does not close on any of them, and they are kept out of this table and out of the ICS/CSV/PDF downloads, where calendar sites are often careless.
No substitute day: what a weekend holiday is worth in Czechia
Czech law makes Sunday the weekly rest day and grants Saturday off as a rule, but it never converts a holiday that lands on either into another day. In 2025 that costs three days: Saints Cyril and Methodius Day on Saturday July 5, Jan Hus Day on Sunday July 6, and Czech Statehood Day on Sunday September 28. Ten of the thirteen days therefore behave like real time off for a Monday-to-Friday worker; three do not.
The practical upside is predictability. Because the fixed eleven dates never move and the movable two come straight out of the computus, the Czech calendar can be published correctly years in advance — and it is why this page can show 2025 through 2028 side by side with no provisional marker. If a date matters to you, the one thing to watch is Easter: it drifts, and it drags Good Friday and Easter Monday with it.

Does Czechia give a substitute day when a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday?
No. There is no transfer or substitute mechanism anywhere in Act 245/2000 Sb. or in the Labour Code's days-of-rest rules. A holiday on a Sunday is simply a holiday on a Sunday. That is why 2025 loses July 5, July 6 and September 28, while 2027 loses four of thirteen.
When is Easter in the Czech Republic in 2025?
Easter Sunday is April 20, so Good Friday is April 18 and Easter Monday April 21. The Czech Republic uses the Gregorian computus; in 2025 it happens to agree with the Orthodox date, but in 2026 Gregorian Easter is April 5 and in 2027 March 28.
