Poland Public Holidays 2025

Poland’s calendar is fixed by Article 1 of the 1951 Act on days free from work: fourteen days a year, including Christmas Eve, which became a day off in 2025 (Act of 6 December 2024, in force from 1 February 2025). In 2025, ten of the fourteen fall on a Monday–Friday, two on a Saturday and two on a Sunday. A holiday on a Sunday costs nothing, but one on a Saturday must be made up: under Labour Code Art. 130 § 2 the employer owes another day off within the settlement period. In 2025 that means Constitution Day (May 3) and All Saints’ Day (November 1). The longest automatic break is Christmas: 5 days, December 24–28, with no leave needed.

2025: ten of Poland’s 14 days off fall on a weekday

The fourteen days are fixed by Article 1 of the 1951 Act, so Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday can never add a day off, while the other twelve depend on the weekday. In 2025 the 14 split into ten weekdays, two Saturdays and two Sundays. Saturday: Constitution Day (May 3) and All Saints’ Day (November 1). Sunday: Easter Sunday (April 20) and Pentecost Sunday (June 8).

Across 2025–2028 the number of weekday days off runs 10, 8, 8, 9; 2025 is the richest year of the four. Easter Sunday falls on April 20; Corpus Christi, always a Thursday, on June 19.

Holidays on a Saturday: who owes you a day off?

Under Labour Code Art. 130 § 2, every holiday that falls on a day other than Sunday lowers the working-time norm of the settlement period by 8 hours. For a Monday–Friday employee a holiday on a Saturday therefore means the employer must grant another day off within that period. The employer chooses the day; there is no nationwide date, so this site shows the Saturday itself and never invents a compensation date. A holiday on a Sunday is not compensated.

In 2025 this applies to Constitution Day (May 3) and All Saints’ Day (November 1). Easter Sunday (April 20) and Pentecost Sunday (June 8) fall on a Sunday and carry no compensation.

Christmas Eve is a day off — since 2025

Wigilia became the fourteenth day off through the Act of 6 December 2024 (Dz.U. 2024 item 1965), in force since 1 February 2025; 2025 was the first year the day applied. In 2025 December 24 falls on a Wednesday.

Employees whose work the Labour Code allows on holidays (Art. 151¹⁰) — continuous-operation and shift work, transport, health care and many services — must receive another day off by the end of the settlement period, most often by December 31, according to the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP). Retail trading is banned on Sundays and public holidays, Christmas Eve included, with exceptions.

Stretching the breaks in 2025

Without using any leave you get Epiphany (3 days, January 4–6), Easter (3 days, April 19–21), Assumption Day (3 days, August 15–17) and Christmas (5 days, December 24–28). Taking Thursday, January 2 and Friday, January 3 off (2 leave days) gives 6 days in a row: January 1–6. Taking Friday, May 2 off (1 leave day) gives 4 days in a row: May 1–4 — the traditional majówka. Taking Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 off (2 leave days) gives 9 days in a row: December 20–28.

Dates assume a Monday–Friday working week; a day owed for a Saturday holiday is the employer’s to schedule, so it is not counted here.
