Buddhist holy days move every year
Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asarnha Bucha and Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent) follow the lunar calendar, so their Gregorian dates shift each year and are confirmed by the government annually. The fixed-date royal and national holidays — Chakri Day (Apr 6), Coronation Day (May 4), the King’s and Queens’ birthdays, Chulalongkorn Day (Oct 23) and Constitution Day (Dec 10) — stay put.
When a holiday lands on a weekend, Thailand grants an in-lieu day on the next working day. In 2026 that adds Mon Jun 1 (for Visakha Bucha) and Mon Dec 7 (for the Dec 5 national day). The Cabinet also often declares extra special holidays — Jan 2, 2026 was added to stretch the New Year break to four days.
