Chinese New Year 2027 falls on a Saturday. Hong Kong’s break runs 6–9 February: the second day of the new year (7 February) is a Sunday, so the fourth day is given in substitution. Mainland China has gazetted the statutory day itself, but the full 2027 arrangement — the exact block and the weekend make-up workdays — is set by a State Council notice expected in late 2026 and had not been published at the time of writing.
Use the 2026 pattern as a planning floor, not a promise: that year the mainland break ran nine days, 15–23 February, paid for with make-up workdays on 14 and 28 February. For travel and supply-chain cut-offs, work backwards from the eve (5 February 2027) — transport is booked out for days on either side of the block.

No. Japan moved its new year to 1 January in 1873, and the lunar new year is an ordinary working day nationally, though it is still celebrated in Okinawa and in the Yokohama and Kobe Chinatowns.
