Planning around the date
The 2027 layout is unusually tidy. Shōwa Day falls on Thursday 29 April, Friday 30 April is a working day, then the weekend of 1–2 May runs into Constitution Memorial Day (3 May), Greenery Day (4 May) and Children’s Day (5 May). Taking that one Friday off joins everything into seven consecutive days, 29 April to 5 May.
Two cautions. First, this is the single busiest travel window in Japan — book shinkansen and domestic flights weeks ahead. Second, do not confuse it with China’s “Golden Week”: that is a separate, deliberately engineered seven-day block around National Day on 1 October, and its 2027 arrangement has not been published yet.
