Example calendar vs. your school

The Christmas, Lunar New Year, Easter and summer blocks come from the EDB’s published example whole-day school calendar for 2025–26 — a guideline, not a mandatory schedule. Direct-subsidy, private and international schools often differ. Gazetted public holidays when schools must close are listed on our Hong Kong 2026 public-holiday page — not duplicated in the table above.

School calendar breaks & public holidays: family planning

The EDB Lunar New Year block (12–21 February) wraps the three-day public holiday (17–19 February) — families get about ten days off school without any leave, a prime window for travel.

Easter holidays (3–11 April) overlap four public holidays (Good Friday 3 Apr, Sat 4 Apr, Mon 6 Apr substitute, Tue 7 Apr substitute) — schools are closed the entire block.

Labour Day (Fri 1 May) and the Buddha’s Birthday substitute (Mon 25 May) sit before summer — taking one leave day on Tue 26 May turns 23–26 May into a five-day break ahead of the 10 July summer start.

National Day (Thu 1 October) inside the autumn term gives a mid-week break; the Mid-Autumn Festival day after (Sat 26 September) is already a school-closure day the prior weekend.
