The five-day Easter break and the 2026 Easter Monday change
In 2026 Good Friday (Apr 3), the day after Good Friday (Apr 4) and Easter Monday (Apr 6) line up with the weekend for a five-day break (Apr 3–7). From 2026, Easter Monday is a statutory holiday for the first time, so employees on the statutory-holiday calendar — not only general-holiday observers — get the day off too.
Six more breaks run three days each, and they need no help from the calendar: Lunar New Year (17–19 Feb) and Christmas (25–27 Dec) bracket the year, while Labour Day (Fri 1 May), Tuen Ng (Fri 19 Jun), the day following Buddha’s Birthday (Mon 25 May) and the day following Chung Yeung (Mon 19 Oct) each land on a Friday or Monday. For the statutory-holiday calendar, note the employer chooses either the Winter Solstice (Dec 22) or Christmas Day at year-end — general-holiday observers get the full Christmas long weekend.
