JC & MI: later start, later finish

Junior college year 1 (JC1) and Millennia Institute year 1 (MI1) start the 2027 school year on Wednesday 3 February; JC2 and MI2/MI3 students return on Monday 11 January. Both cohorts share the same March, June and September holidays as primary and secondary schools.

For JC and MI, Term 4 runs to Friday 26 November (JC2 and MI3 continue until their A-Level examinations end), and the year-end holidays start on Saturday 27 November — about a week after primary and secondary schools.

Youth Day, the day after National Day and Teachers’ Day apply to JC/MI students too; Children’s Day is for primary schools only.

School holidays & public holidays: stretching the breaks

Chinese New Year (Sat 6 – Mon 8 February) falls inside Term 1. The gazetted days already give students a free three-day weekend; taking four days of leave (9–12 February) turns 6–14 February into a nine-day family break.

In Term 2, Hari Raya Haji (Mon 17 May) and Vesak Day (Thu 20 May) bracket just two school days. One day of leave on Friday 21 May turns 15–23 May into a nine-day break — the best leave-trick of 2027, and it ends right as the June holidays start on 29 May.

National Day (Mon 9 August) falls in Term 3, and the school holiday on the day after (Tue 10 August) gives students a free four-day weekend from 7–10 August — no leave needed at all.

Teachers' Day (Fri 3 September) is the last day of Term 3, so students roll straight into the September holidays (4–12 September). Primary-school pupils also get Children's Day off on Friday 8 October in Term 4.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Singapore school holidays in 2027?+

Term 1 runs 4 January – 12 March, then March holidays 13–21 March; Term 2 runs 22 March – 28 May, then June (mid-year) holidays 29 May – 27 June; Term 3 runs 28 June – 3 September, then September holidays 4–12 September; Term 4 runs 13 September – 19 November, then year-end holidays from 20 November. School-based closures add Youth Day (5 July), the day after National Day (10 August), Teachers’ Day (3 September) and Children’s Day (8 October, primary only).

When does MOE announce the school calendar?+

Usually about two years ahead. The 2027 school calendar was announced on 14 July 2026, covering all terms, holidays and school-based closures. You can always check the current and next year on the official MOE calendar page (see sources below).

How do junior college (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI) holidays differ?+

JC1 and MI1 start on 3 February (JC2/MI2–3 on 11 January), but share the March, June and September holidays with primary and secondary schools. JC/MI Term 4 ends 26 November (JC2/MI3 after their A-Level exams), so their year-end holidays start on 27 November, about a week later.

What are school-based holidays in Singapore?+

Youth Day, the day after National Day, Teachers’ Day and Children’s Day are school holidays in the MOE calendar: students are off, but these are not public holidays — parents still work, so plan childcare or family leave in advance.

Which public holidays overlap school holidays in 2027?+

Two highlights: National Day (Mon 9 August) plus the school closure on 10 August gives students a free four-day weekend in Term 3; and Christmas (Sat 25 December) falls inside the year-end holidays. Near-misses matter too: Hari Raya Haji (Mon 17 May) and Vesak Day (Thu 20 May) are one leave day away from a nine-day break, and Chinese New Year (6–8 February) sits inside Term 1.
