School holidays by country

Singapore dates come from MOE press releases and moe.gov.sg/calendar. Hong Kong long blocks follow the EDB example school calendar where verified; public-holiday closures are gazetted separately. Japan follows the MEXT framework and Tokyo Metropolitan standard pattern (Kids Web Japan). Malaysia 2026 is from KPM Surat Siaran Bil. 3/2025; Malaysia 2027 lists only the confirmed 4 January start until the full calendar is published.

They come from different official sources — MOE/EDB/KPM school calendars vs. labour or general-holiday gazettes. A school term break is not a public holiday (parents may still work), and a public holiday inside term time does not extend the school calendar. We keep them on separate pages so dates are never conflated.

The UK (2026 and 2027 standard DfE/council dates), Singapore and Hong Kong (2026 and 2027), Japan (2026 and 2027, MEXT standard pattern), Malaysia (2026 full KPM calendar; 2027 partial), and Thailand (2026 and 2027, OBEC framework). More countries will follow as official calendars are verified.

Hong Kong 2027 EDB long holiday blocks, Japan municipal dates, Hong Kong 2026 example-calendar blocks and Malaysia 2027 Cuti Penggal could not be fully verified from an official source when those pages were written. We list only what is confirmed and mark the rest pending — stale provisional is also wrong.

Each country page has a “School holidays × public holidays” section that cross-references both calendars without merging them — e.g. Hari Raya inside Cuti Penggal 1 (Malaysia), Golden Week inside Term 1 (Japan), or National Day plus MOE school closure (Singapore).
