Argentina Public Holidays (2025–2028)
Argentina’s 2026 calendar is fixed by Decreto 164/2025, building on Ley 24.445 (which lists the holidays) and Ley 27.399 (which sets how the movable ones shift). There are 16 feriados nacionales — days every worker is legally entitled to — plus three non-mandatory días no laborables for tourism. Because most movable holidays land on a Monday, the year delivers a strong run of natural fin de semana largo, headlined by the four-day Carnival break (14–17 Feb) and a four-day Holy Week (2–5 Apr).

How Argentina sets its 2026 holidays
Three layers of law decide the Argentine calendar. Ley 24.445 lists the days themselves; Ley 27.399 splits them into "inamovibles" (fixed dates that never move) and "feriados trasladables" (movable patriotic anniversaries), and then each year a Decreto — for 2026, Decreto 164/2025 — publishes the definitive list and designates up to three extra tourism days. This page reflects the Decreto as gazetted, so the 2026 dates below are confirmed rather than estimated.
The feriados trasladables rule (Ley 27.399 art. 6)
The four movable patriotic holidays are Güemes (17 June), San Martín (17 August), Cultural Diversity (12 October) and National Sovereignty (20 November). Article 6 of Ley 27.399 pulls each one back to the preceding Monday if it would fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and pushes it forward to the next Monday if it falls on a Thursday or Friday — but if it lands on a Saturday or Sunday it is simply left there and lost. That is exactly what happens in 2026: June 17 is a Wednesday, so Güemes is observed on Monday 15 June, and November 20 is a Friday, so Sovereignty moves to Monday 23 November.
Fixed holidays — New Year, 24 March, 2 April, 1 May, 25 May, 20 June, 9 July, 8 December and 25 December — never move regardless of the weekday they fall on. In 2026 only one falls on a weekend: Flag Day (20 June) is a Saturday, so workers who are off Monday to Friday get no compensation for it.
Feriado nacional vs día no laborable — what actually gets you paid
A feriado nacional is a true public holiday: the whole country is treated as being off, and an employee who works one is owed an enhanced (typically double) rate. A día no laborable, by contrast, is a recommendation aimed at easing travel and tourism; employers may choose to work or not, and if you work a non-laborable day you are generally paid at your normal rate. Argentina uses non-laborable days for the three tourism "vacation" bridges — in 2026 those fall on Monday 23 March, Friday 10 July and Monday 7 December. Because they are optional, they are listed separately on this page and are never included in the downloadable calendar file — only the 16 feriados nacionales are.

Frequently asked questions
How many national holidays does Argentina have in 2026?
Sixteen feriados nacionales, all mandatory paid days off under Ley 24.445 as moved by Ley 27.399 and confirmed for 2026 by Decreto 164/2025. On top of those the decree adds three non-mandatory tourism days no laborables (23 March, 10 July, 7 December).
What is the longest holiday break in Argentina in 2026?
The longest break in Argentina is Carnival (Feb 14 – 17, 4 days).
What are the official public holidays in Argentina in 2026?
Argentina has 16 official public holidays in 2026: New Year's Day (January 1, 2026), Carnival Monday (February 16, 2026), Carnival Tuesday (February 17, 2026), Day of Memory for Truth and Justice (March 24, 2026), Malvinas Veterans Day (April 2, 2026), Good Friday (April 3, 2026), Labour Day (May 1, 2026), May Revolution Day (May 25, 2026), Güemes Day (June 15, 2026), National Flag Day (June 20, 2026), Independence Day (July 9, 2026), San Martín Day (August 17, 2026), Day of Cultural Diversity (October 12, 2026), National Sovereignty Day (November 23, 2026), Immaculate Conception (December 8, 2026), Christmas Day (December 25, 2026).
When is Carnival and Easter in Argentina in 2026?
Carnival is Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 February, forming a four-day break with the weekend. Easter Sunday is 5 April; the nationally observed day is Good Friday on 3 April, which with Malvinas Day (Thu 2 April) makes another four-day break.
How many fin de semana largo are there in 2026?
Nine long weekends of three days or more come straight from the calendar with no leave needed — including four-day breaks at Carnival (14–17 Feb) and Holy Week (2–5 Apr). Taking the tourism non-laborable days as bridges adds a few more, which is why the government touted it as a strong year for domestic tourism.
Why did Güemes Day move to 15 June instead of 17 June?
Because 17 June 2026 falls on a Wednesday. Under article 6 of Ley 27.399, a movable holiday on a Tuesday or Wednesday is shifted back to the previous Monday, so Güemes is observed on Monday 15 June and the anniversary itself becomes a working day.
If I work on an Argentine public holiday in 2026, how am I paid?
For a feriado nacional you receive an enhanced rate — in practice roughly double for hours on a normal rest day — because the day is legally a national holiday. For a día no laborable the rule is weaker: if your employer operates, those hours are usually paid at your ordinary rate. This is the practical difference between the two categories used throughout this page.
