Make-up workdays: +5 · 243 → 248
2025 has 365 calendar days: 104 fall on a weekend and 18 public holiday days land on a weekday. On top of that, 5 weekend days are officially converted into working days (make-up workdays), which brings China to 248 working days. Generic calculators treat every Saturday and Sunday as time off, miss those 5 days and report 243 instead.

Why our count differs: make-up workdays
China builds long breaks by "borrowing" the weekend either side of a holiday, and those borrowed weekend days become ordinary working days. In 2025 there are 5 of them: Jan 26, Feb 8, Apr 27, Sep 28, Oct 11. Because generic working-day calculators treat every Saturday and Sunday as time off, they miss these 5 days and report 243 instead of 248 — a full 5-day error in any payroll, staffing or project schedule built on them.

How we count
We walk the calendar day by day from 1 January to 31 December. A Monday-to-Friday date that is not on the official holiday list counts as a working day; multi-day breaks are expanded from their start to their end date. Weekends are non-working by default, except for weekend dates the government has designated as make-up workdays, which are counted back in. Every date is handled in UTC, so the result never shifts with the reader’s timezone.
Only nationwide statutory holidays for China are counted. Annual leave, sick leave, company shutdown days and holidays observed in one region only are not included, so banks, government offices and individual employers may work a slightly different calendar.
Frequently asked questions
How many working days are there in China in 2025?+
China has 248 working days in 2025: 365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days and 18 public holiday days that fall on a weekday, plus 5 make-up workdays when weekends are worked. That is about 1984 hours on a standard 8-hour day.
How many non-working days does China have in 2025?+
117 days: 104 weekend days plus 18 weekday public holidays, minus the 5 weekend days that are worked. A further 10 holiday days already fall on a weekend, so they add no extra time off.
Why does your number differ from other working-day calculators?+
Because we count make-up workdays. In 2025, China works 5 weekend days (Jan 26, Feb 8, Apr 27, Sep 28, Oct 11). Calculators that assume every Saturday and Sunday is off return 243 — 5 days short.
Which month has the most and fewest working days in China in 2025?+
July has the most with 23 working days, and October the fewest with 18. The table below breaks all twelve months down into working days, weekend days and holidays.
Does this include annual leave or company holidays?+
No. Only nationwide statutory holidays for China are counted. Annual leave, sick leave, employer shutdown days and region-specific holidays are excluded, so your own workplace calendar may differ by a few days.
Are the 2025 figures final?+
Yes. The 2025 China holiday list is officially published; this page was last updated on 2026-06-03, with sources listed on the matching year calendar.
