Indonesia is the one country on this site where the published holiday list tells you almost nothing about the long weekends. The breaks that matter come from cuti bersama — collective leave days the government adds around holidays, decided by a joint decree (SKB) signed by three ministers, usually in the third quarter of the preceding year. Four windows are visible on the provisional 2027 calendar, but the headline is March: Nyepi on Tuesday March 9 runs straight into Idul Fitri on Wednesday and Thursday March 10–11, and if the government bridges the Monday and Friday as it did in 2025 and 2026, the country gets a nine-day national break from March 6 to 14.

Cuti bersama: the decree that creates the long weekends
Indonesia’s public holidays are set alongside cuti bersama in a single Surat Keputusan Bersama — a joint decree from the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform, coordinated by Kemenko PMK. Cuti bersama days are not extra holidays; for most private-sector workers they are deducted from annual leave entitlement. But they are the reason Indonesian breaks look so long: the decree fills in the working days between holidays and weekends so the whole block runs uninterrupted.
Timing matters if you are planning ahead. The 2026 decree was signed on 19 September 2025, so the 2027 version is expected somewhere between August and October 2026. Until it lands, not a single cuti bersama day for 2027 is known, and the Islamic dates on this page — both Isra Mi’raj occurrences, Idul Fitri, Idul Adha, 1 Muharram and Maulid — are astronomical estimates that moon-sighting can move by a day. Fixed-date holidays such as New Year and Independence Day (Aug 17) are firm.
March 2027: Nyepi and Lebaran back to back
Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, falls on Tuesday March 9 and Idul Fitri on Wednesday and Thursday March 10–11. That collision is unusual and consequential. Nyepi shuts Bali completely for 24 hours — Ngurah Rai airport closes, no vehicles move, tourists stay inside their hotels — and Lebaran is the country’s largest annual migration, when tens of millions travel home for mudik. Back to back, they will dominate the first half of March regardless of what the decree adds.
The other three windows on the provisional calendar are more ordinary: New Year (Jan 1–3), Easter (Mar 26–28) and Idul Adha (May 15–17), all three-day weekends. Note that Independence Day on August 17, 2027 is a Tuesday, which historically is exactly the shape the government likes to bridge with a Monday cuti bersama — worth watching when the decree appears.
