How we count

We walk the calendar day by day from 1 January to 31 December. A Monday-to-Friday date that is not on the official holiday list counts as a working day; multi-day breaks are expanded from their start to their end date. Weekends are non-working by default, except for weekend dates the government has designated as make-up workdays, which are counted back in. Every date is handled in UTC, so the result never shifts with the reader’s timezone.

Only nationwide statutory holidays for United States are counted. Annual leave, sick leave, company shutdown days and holidays observed in one region only are not included, so banks, government offices and individual employers may work a slightly different calendar.

Frequently asked questions

How many working days are there in United States in 2026?+

United States has 250 working days in 2026: 365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days and 11 public holiday days that fall on a weekday. That is about 2000 hours on a standard 8-hour day.

How many non-working days does United States have in 2026?+

115 days: 104 weekend days plus 11 weekday public holidays. A further 1 holiday days already fall on a weekend, so they add no extra time off.

Why does your number differ from other working-day calculators?+

We work from the official United States holiday list for 2026, expand every multi-day break and include substitute or observed days. United States has no make-up workday system, so any correct calculation lands on 250; a different figure usually means a missed substitute day or an out-of-date list.

Which month has the most and fewest working days in United States in 2026?+

March has the most with 22 working days, and November the fewest with 19. The table below breaks all twelve months down into working days, weekend days and holidays.

Does this include annual leave or company holidays?+

No. Only nationwide statutory holidays for United States are counted. Annual leave, sick leave, employer shutdown days and region-specific holidays are excluded, so your own workplace calendar may differ by a few days.

Are the 2026 figures final?+

Yes. The 2026 United States holiday list is officially published; this page was last updated on 2026-06-08, with sources listed on the matching year calendar.
