Taiwan Make-up Workdays 2026
Taiwan has no make-up workdays (補班) in 2026. From 2025 the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (DGPA) stopped scheduling Saturday make-up days — when a holiday falls on a weekend it simply shifts to the nearest weekday (Friday or Monday). All nine long weekends in 2026 are “free” with no borrowed Saturday to pay back, unlike mainland China which has six make-up workdays in 2026.

How Taiwan handles weekends differently from mainland China
Mainland China uses 调休 (tiaoxiu): workers trade specific Saturdays or Sundays for longer breaks — six make-up workdays in 2026. Taiwan abolished this practice from 2025. When a holiday lands on Saturday it is observed the preceding Friday; on Sunday, the following Monday. The 9-day Lunar New Year and other long breaks come without any make-up Saturday.
